Referees
Students find it difficult to source a referee for their job application. Referees need to be responsible adults who know your child.
Whilst it may be easier, family members and relatives are often not the best referees for students.
Referees are people who are prepared to speak about your child's qualities and suitability and recommend them to an employer. Make sure your child has their permission to supply their contact details. Good referees include:
- Former employers
- Other responsible adults who can vouch for their maturity and capacity for work (e.g. Youth leaders, sport coaches)
Teachers in NSW public schools are not allowed to provide personal references on school letterhead, or mention their school.
Remember to ask first! It is not a good idea to use family members or relatives.
