Teachers may wish to use the scenario provided to present to students the issues about OHS.
Tran accidentally cuts himself at his job in a kitchen. The employer administers first aid at the scene and then drives Tran to hospital.
The employer offers to pay Tran's medical expenses above Medicare costs.
Because of the injury, it will be about four weeks before Tran can return to work.
The employer assures Tran that he can go back to work when he's ready, provided that he doesn't report the injury to WorkCover. Tran is told that if he does he will lose his job.
